It was great to host this year’s Resco Next in Vienna and discuss the direction our industry is taking with our fellow enterprise app professionals.

Attendees were welcomed by Andrew Lorraine, who introduced key insights, opportunities and trends shaping our space. If you did not make it to Vienna this year, read this blog to get the main takeaways from his keynote.

Only one-third of frontline professionals have sufficient apps for work

Frontline professionals are not experiencing productivity gains at the same rate as other sectors. Only about a third are satisfied with their tech tools and applications. If you dig into it, you will find that productivity for frontline workers is more than just efficiency and technology.

Listen to Andrew present Resco’s revamped portfolio

“There’s a human factor that matters when you’re trying to help people become more productive, and it’s their experience with technology. Companies that understand this and prioritize and invest in their frontline technology end up being more productive,“ said Andrew.

When frontline workers are provided with technological tools to support them in performing their jobs, productivity is estimated to increase on average by 22%, with an overall bottom-line growth of more than 20%.

Mobile Solutions for verticals are a great opportunity for partners

Given the significant gap in sufficient productivity tools for frontline workers, Resco’s solutions offer an important opportunity for partners. Resco provides the necessary tools to enhance frontline productivity and drive financial growth.

Both the Mobile App Development Toolkit and the Mobile Solutions are tools for partners to build their own industry verticals and build new income streams.

The pre-built white-label solutions for property and energy industries can be used as a base for partners’ own solutions. “They come with a model-driven Power App that’s enhanced with Resco tools. This allows organizations or partners to take advantage of the great capabilities and innovations on the Power Platform,“ said Andrew.

Andrew Lorraine presenting the theme of the conference: Productivity Unleashed

Some partners have already been successful in creating a strong income stream based on our solutions. Read more about Johnathan Taub and his FIELDBOSS solution for HVAC companies or Tom Moortgat’s Fearless Leader solution for pharma sales.

We have added a new solution to our offering, Resco Property+, which allows users to schedule visits, inspect properties, gather data, report, and analyze field data.

Power Platform is the next space for frontline enterprise apps and AI innovation

Power Platform has evolved into a strategic tool for building enterprise apps, gaining interest from Resco Next attendees. From 100 of the enterprise app professionals asked, two-thirds of them expect to develop most of their apps on the Power Platform by 2025.*

We are excited to contribute our expertise to it. “Thanks to our experience and the 1.2 million lines of code we have written for mobile CRM apps, we can add value to partners and customers building apps on it,” said Andrew.

April Dunnam from Microsoft

During the keynote, Andrew was joined on stage by Microsoft’s Principal Cloud Advocate, April Dunnam, who spoke more in-depth about how Power Platform can significantly decrease the time it takes to build a solution. She invited ISVs to contribute their expertise to the platform.

“We really need ISVs in the Power Platform space to innovate and specialize. There are going to be gaps in the product where we need to be able to extend the out-of-the-box experiences, and that’s where ISVs are strategically placed to help,” said April.

Resco Power Solutions enable partners to build faster

Following April Dunnam’s insights about the growing opportunities on Power Platform, Resco is proud to be an early adopter of this innovative space. We offer Power Solutions and Power Components to help partners build business solutions more quickly and with less maintenance.

Resco’s Power Solutions provide a comprehensive framework that includes essential functionalities for data collection or document generation, allowing app makers to focus on tailoring their applications to specific business needs without starting from scratch. This not only accelerates the development process but also ensures consistency and reliability.

Our Power Components are pre-built modules that can be easily integrated into apps, offering capabilities such as image gallery, Kanban board, tree view, or file upload. These components reduce the development effort and time significantly, enabling partners to deliver robust solutions faster.

A new class of software solutions

We encourage our partners to leverage the full suite of Microsoft Business Applications and Resco technology to provide users with a great experience and seize opportunities.

“We want to create a new class of software solutions for frontline workers and supply the booming market out there, and an opportunity for all of us,” said Andrew Lorraine.

Curious to see how it all develops? Let’s talk about it in 2025 at the next Resco Next.

Do your external users need a Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Power Platform license or not? What is an “external user?” The questions seem simple, but there are multiple points to consider.  Ben Vollmer, an industry veteran, provides practical insights to help you make an informed decision when defining your external user strategy.

Licensing Microsoft Business Applications to external users is a commonly misunderstood area of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Apps licensing guide. Ben Vollmer, along with Jakub Bajla and Eduard Kesely from Resco, brings some common sense to this topic by guiding you through the core concepts and providing real-life examples.

The term “external user” has been part of the Microsoft vocabulary for about 20 years. Despite its longevity, it’s often misunderstood.

External users are individuals who interact with a system but are not part of the organization that operates the system. Examples include customers accessing a portal to view their account information or caretakers accessing a relative’s medical records online.

The webinar starts by breaking down the terminology. Ben explains the difference between an external user and an outsourced user and explains what it means to be working “for you” or “on your behalf”.

Watch the webinar

Do your users need licenses? Important points to consider

Ben encourages viewers not to skip the details when considering whether a user can take advantage of external user access to Microsoft Business Applications or not. The details draw the fine line between being in-compliance and out-of-compliance with the Microsoft licensing guide. He suggests considering:

  • Who owns the license?
  • What is the external user doing?
  • Multiplexing
  • Access to graphical user interface (GUI)
  • License reassignment rights

Good news: Resco supports all scenarios

If you use Resco, you can rest assured our products offer options to make sure you stay compliant with the Microsoft licensing guide – no matter which group your users fall into.

Ben Vollmer is joined by Eduard Kesely, Resco Head of Product. Eduard describes the three types of projects you can build with our Mobile App Development Toolkit:

  1. Anonymous External Users: These users access the app without authentication, receiving the same content universally. Typically this is for marketing purposes involving publicly available information. Setup involves creating a common user in the backend and customizing specific projects in Woodford which will be used for these types of users. (Usage scenario is for customers who need to access common information of the company)
  2. External (Portal) Users: These users log in to access CRM content tailored for them. This setup requires defining a security role in CRM and using Woodford to configure the project with authentication entities and registration methods. (Usage scenario is for suppliers of the company who are not part of the company and directly do not contribute to the business of the company)
  3. Standard User Project: A project for authenticated users, with unique content for each logged in user based on security role and permissions.  (Usage scenario is for contractors, seasonal workers, and sales representatives directly working on behalf of the company)

Courtyard by Marriot hotel in Vienna

This year’s venue for the conference is the Courtyard by Mariott hotel, located next to the famous Prater park.

The best way to get to the hotel from Vienna International Airport is to take the Vienna Airport Lines Bus (Line VAL 3) from the international bus terminal. The bus arrives at a stop approximately 100 meters from the hotel.

If you are arriving by train at Hauptbahnhof, then take the metro U1 to Praterstern and change there to the U2 line and get off and Krieu.

Guests arriving by car can book hotel parking for the price of 32 EUR per day (hotel guest rate) or 50 EUR per day (public rate). There is another paid parking lot located next to the University of Vienna as well with a daily rate of approx. 25 EUR.

Pre-conference day transport from Bratislava to Vienna

The pre-conference day will be held at our Bratislava HQ which is located just one hour away from our venue in Vienna. The consultation sessions, Tech Deep Dive and the Partner Development workshop will take place in our offices.

If you glimpse a dinosaur in the distance, do not be worried. There is a Dinopark right next to the restaurant. Have you ever played Wine casino? Perhaps now it’s the time to try it.

Best spots in Vienna

For anyone, who wants to see a little bit of Vienna, we recommend taking a walk trough the historic city center and make refreshment breaks at the elegant cafes and take in the views from the rooftop bars.

In this workshop centered around a common business case, our Success team will guide you through the journey of a fictional company Z.A.P. Energy Cleaning.

Z.A.P. Energy Cleaning uses Microsoft Dynamics 365 as its CRM. However, it has digitization requirements that go beyond a CRM solution and they’re looking for a way to grow on Power Platform.

Through the Z.A.P. Energy Cleaning story, we will show you how you can use the same Resco tools you know and love for CRM on Power Platform to cover a wide range of business challenges.

Our Success team will demonstrate:

We’re thrilled to share more details about the agenda for Resco Next 2024. Discover the conference’s main themes and join us in Vienna, Austria on June 4-5 for the 10th anniversary of this can’t-miss community event.

The rate of change for technology is having drastic impacts on business and IT. And it’s causing a radical shift in how we think about productivity – from implementations and billables to strategic partnerships and results.

That’s why the theme for Resco Next 2024 is productivity unleashed

How can app makers be more productive with less code?

How can frontline workers be more productive through a better UX?

Join the Resco Community in Vienna to learn, collaborate, and chart a path towards a more productive future for your business.

Better outcomes for frontline workers

Despite their critical role, frontline workers often fall behind in terms of digital investments and their experience with technology – ultimately limiting how productive they can be.

Game-changing sync and performance innovations

Come learn how Resco is addressing these challenges by driving major improvements to our Resco Mobile App Development Toolkit, including game-changing sync and performance innovations, a revamped UI and UX for our users, and our long-term vision for an engaged, productive mobile workforce.

Dedicated non-profit sessions

For the first time this year, we are featuring dedicated sessions about non-profits. Alex Mouratchanidis will speak about the impact that HIAS, a non-profit organization focused on providing aid to refugees, was able to achieve by partnering with Resco.

We are also excited to host Lisa Crosbie, a technology evangelist with robust expertise in Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Dynamics 365. In her session on “Practical AI Tools for Nonprofit” she will explore AI tools for fundraising and supporter engagement.

New: Industry-specific applications

We’ll also be introducing an exciting way for Partners to channel their know-how towards bringing in new business. Come get inspired by Resco Mobile Solutions, industry-specific applications that leverage the best of Resco and help organizations rapidly digitize their field operations.

Productivity unleashed with Microsoft Power Platform and Copilot

Thanks to its leading AI, Copilot and low-code development capabilities, organizations around the globe are turning to the Power Platform to improve their processes and stand out amongst the competition.

Resco introduced our first set of solutions for the Power Platform last fall at Resco Next 2023. And this year will be no different. At Resco Next 2024, we’ll be launching Resco Power Components, a brand-new set of tools that help app makers become instantly more productive on the Power Platform. Don’t miss the opportunity to get early access.

We’ll also be joined by a leading group of Microsoft MVPs and enterprise app development experts to help attendees become more effective at delivering impactful solutions:

  • Daniel Laskewitz will teach us everything about building, expanding, and deploying Copilots in your solutions to accelerate productivity.
  • Vivian Voss will expand on the AI topic by showing us how to utilize Copilot for sales and guide us through integrating it with Office 365.
  • Yannick Reekmans will take the stage to speak about the evolving role of a Solution Architect in the ever-expanding Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
  • And Antti Pajunen will share guidance on app development and governance on the Power Platform.

Don’t miss it!

We are also excited to welcome April Dunnam, Principal Cloud Advocate for the Power Platform, to Vienna as our distinguished speaker.

Most speakers and sessions will take place during the two main conference days on June 4 –5. The day before the conference (June 3) is dedicated to consultation sessions and an exclusive sales workshop by Rick McCutcheon.

Introducing Tech Deep Dive Day for developers

This year, we’re adding something special to Resco Next – five in-depth technical sessions crafted by Resco CTO Tomas Michalek and our team of developers for the pro-code crowd.

These hands-on sessions will take place in our Bratislava office one day before the conference, and they’re oriented towards helping developers and technically-skilled consultants code more productively. You can look forward to the following topics:

The theme of the conference

Resco Next 2024 will look at the state of enterprise app development. We are working hard on bringing you the best domain experts, thorough case studies and inspiring speakers. More information about the sessions, speakers, and a full agenda will be revealed soon.

What awaits you in Vienna?

A lot of inspiration, we hope! Vienna is a truly magnificent city to walk around with many cozy restaurants, iconic cafes and rooftop bars with gorgeous views. It is the ideal backdrop for conversations and networking.

Here is a short overview of what you can find there:

Innere Stadt (City Center)

When in Vienna, you should not miss a walk through the historic center. You can walk along the historic buildings of Hofburg, the Art History and Natural History Museums, Stephansplatz and many beautiful palaces. If you’re up for a more challenging walk, walk all the way up to the Gloriette and enjoy a beautiful view of the whole city.

A true metropole, Vienna has many well-kept city parks, such as the Stadtpark, where everyone meets to enjoy some good weather.

St. Stephen's Cathedral, Stephansplatz
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Stephansplatz

Vienna has a great transportation system, so any of the main parts are easily reachable by metro or tram.

Café culture

When you get tired of walking around, stop by for some refreshment at one of Vienna’s iconic cafes. Austrians are notorious for doting on the quality of their desserts, but you can also get a savory snack, or a schnitzel, at most of the cafes.

Take a run in Prater

Why not have a bit of fun? Head to the Prater and take a ride on the “Wiener Riesenrad” – a famous Ferris wheel from 1897. The old amusement park is close to our venue, has retro and new rides and is a popular spot with the locals. Runners also like to frequent the spot.

MuseumsQuartier

The modern art scene is centered around Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, where you will find the Leopold Museum, Museum of Modern Art (MUMOK), street art and lots of people enjoying a cool drink or espresso.

We are supporting partners in building their own verticals

We see this as a great opportunity for partners to differentiate themselves in the market and to create a new business offering.

“Our technology can do the heavy lifting and enable partners to create a branded, custom app,” said Andrew.

Another partner utilizing Resco’s technology for a specialized business app is Tom Moortgat from Cegeka. Tom has built Fearless Leader, a fully customized solution for the pharmaceutical industry.

It’s a tailored ISV solution for enhancing sales and service performance, utilizing Resco’s mobile capabilities to build it on top of Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE and Power BI.

Further investing in the quality of the mobile experience

We are continuing to invest significantly in developing our offline capabilities to keep delivering the best offline experience on the market.

We are focusing on making UI / UX improvements to ensure frontline workers’ experience with enterprise software is as comfortable as consumer apps.

Some of the UX / UI improvements are already available as a part of our recent release.

This year’s location for the resco.NEXT conference is the sunny and warm city of Marbella, located on the southern coast of Spain.

We have put together a summary of all the best spots in the city to make sure you have a great experience at resco.NEXT this fall. Don’t forget to download our event app to have all important conference information easily accessible on your phone. Download it from App Store or Google Play Store.

know before you go resco next marbella old town

Let’s take a look at the weather forecast first. Costa del Sol is Spain’s sunniest spot. You can expect great weather with temperatures at approximately 20 – 25 degrees Celsius (70 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit). Perfect for a run and a refreshing swim in the hotel pool or sea afterwards. Our annual pre-conference run is on the agenda on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Now, onto some practical information to make sure you know your way around.

Airport transport and hotel information

The conference will be held at the recently opened Hard Rock Hotel Marbella from Oct. 23 – Oct. 25, 2023.

Malaga Airport is the closest international airport in the area. An Uber/Bolt taxi ride from the airport takes about 40 –50 minutes if there are no traffic jams. It is also possible to take a bus from Terminal 3.

About the hotel

The Hard Rock Hotel is located within walking distance of the Puerto Banús Marina. You can take a short walk along the shops, taxi, or subway to reach the beachfront.

Favorite attractions in Marbella: Old Town and Puerto Banús

Old Town: Plaza de los Naranjos

The plaza dates from 1485; it is an area that was created to be the city’s urban hub. It is framed by typical white Andalusian houses and historic buildings. In the center of the plaza is a Renaissance fountain surrounded by orange trees, from which the square now takes its name.

It has a lovely atmosphere ideal for a light lunch or tapas dinner in the old heart of the city.

Old Town: Parque de la Alameda

Located next to the Old Town is the Alameda Park with ceramic benches, which offer rest in the shade after exploring. It dates to the 18th century with a wide variety of botanical species, two large promenades and a beautiful, tiled fountain.

Salvador Dali's statute at Avenida del Mar in Marbella

If you want to explore further, you can stroll down to Avenida del Mar Promenade, which features outdoor sculptures by Salvador Dali.

Puerto Banús and beautiful beaches

Walk along the promenade of this beach and see the whole marina of Puerto Banús with all its palm trees, cafés, shops, and restaurants. Next to the marina are two of the most popular beaches in Marbella, Río Verde and Duque.

The City Council works hard to maintain the 27 kilometer-long coastline and has earned nine Blue Flag Certificates for their cleanliness and services.

Artola Dunes and Cabopino Beach

For all its seaside glamour, Marbella is surrounded by lush and beautiful nature that is well preserved. You can take a long walk on the boardwalks built to protect the natural Artola Sand Dunes and go for a swim at the Capobino Beach close by.

The cuisine and restaurants in Marbella: seafood, steak and tapas

Our hotel has two restaurant options. The first one, Sessions, is a buffet-style restaurant that serves a unique take on the Spanish cuisine. The second one, Nu Downtown, offers a la carte Asian fusion cuisine and cocktails. You can also enjoy a burger on the outside hotel terrace next to the pool.

If you venture out of the hotel for dinner, you will discover that Marbella is a melting pot of cultures and offers a variety of cuisines – steak, seafood, Spanish, Indian, Mediterranean, or fusion. A lot of Marbella’s restaurants are located at the beach, which means you can enjoy a beautiful view. We fully recommend visiting one of them during your stay.

Seafood with a view: The Garum Restaurant, The Harbour Bar and Restaurant, El Cortijo (pictured), Bar Altamirano

Steak grill with a Michelin star: ERRE & Urechu

Erre & Urrechu is a restaurant featuring no fewer than three wood grills: holm oak for meats; orange tree wood for vegetables; and olive wood for fish. BBQ restaurants are very popular in Marbella.

Marbella is a popular filming location and is often featured in Hollywood movies. It is not uncommon to meet celebrities such as Antonio Banderas, Julio Iglesias, Hugh Grant, and other celebrities, who have homes there or visit frequently. There are quite a few restaurants with Michelin stars in the area.

More BBQ grills: Rib Shack Marbella, Hacienda Patagonica, Erre & Urrechu (pictured)

Best Tapas in Old Town: San Lázaro Street

Book an outside table and watch the world go by while enjoying classic tapas dishes and house wines. They also offer non-alcoholic cocktails. San Lázaro Street is a reference point for tapeo. Instead of going for a sit-down meal, opt to visit various tapas bars in town.

More Tapas in Old Town: Cider House Paca, Taberna La Niña del Pisto, Taberna Tierraranda, Bar Restaurant Bartolo, Bar El Estrecho, Mia Café Tapas Bar, Arco Tapas Bar (pictured)

Download the resco.NEXT app for all conference information
